So you want to intern for NASA?

As a 3 time NASA intern, I’m here to give you my hot tips for how to find an educational opportunity that is out of this world!

First things first, each NASA center is like a small city, so no need to be an aerospace engineer or an astrophysicist to work at NASA. NASA needs people of all backgrounds, yes, there are many engineers & scientists, but there are also many educators, artists, technicians, janitors, gardeners, managers, accountants, biologists, and more! Every year, NASA hosts thousands of interns, so why not be one of them!

My advice here is what I have personally found to work & what I have seen work for others. I hope this helps you along your journey, as well, and I’m sure many of the lessons I’ve learned with NASA would also be helpful when applied to other fields & organizations, as well.

  1. Express your passion. You do not need to be passionate about a single thing, and your passions can grow, change, & evolve. But it is crucial to be invested & excited about what you are learning about & what you want to do in your future. I have seen people who are passionate about broad fields like space systems engineering or particular technical areas. This can be expressed through learning a lot about the topics that you’re passionate about, volunteering to engage in the area, summer jobs, school projects, writing, art, and many other…
